Warp Records celebration

20 years of mad bleeps and danceable insanity! Sheffield's iconic Warp Records label celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, which brought back early 90's memories of buying vinyl at their sadly departed shop on Division St... still cant beat a bit of LFO!

Jacques Mesrine double bill

Mesrine is a fantastic gangster film about the real life criminal Jacques Mesrine who was a larger than life figure in 60s and 70s France. Vincent Cassel is incredible in the title role.

Released in two parts (Killer Instinct and Public Enemy No. 1), both are on general release and definitely worth looking up - here's a taster:

The Jon Stewart Daily Show

I have become addicted to the Jon Stewart Daily Show – a kind of ‘Have-I-Got-News-For-You-meets-Jay-Leno’...I was bitten in the run up to the US election, and now I can’t get enough.

I like the ‘reporters’ on the show – particular the Brummy John Oliver – see him in action here at Obama’s inauguration:

Owls do double!

After 95 years (NINETY-FIVE YEARS!) the mighty Wednesday have finally managed to do a league double over our porcine neighbours, winning at Bramall Lane for the first time since 1967 into the bargain.

Get in!

Moules & Frites for Christmas anyone?

This year me and my brother Will (yes the one who doesn't work here!) spent Xmas at our dad's in Brussels.

Always a good place for drinking insanely strong beer, we now had the pleasure of wandering around the winter markets in between drinking insanely strong beer.

Highly recommended!

Oh No! The Wire has finished!

I've just finished watching series 5 of The Wire, which has kicked The Sopranos off its perch as the greatest TV show I've ever seen.

It's hard to describe The Wire without making it sound like hard work, but I've found a review by Guardian TV critic and professional malcontent Charlie Brooker that does the job very well.

As he says in his summing up, just watch it - it's f***ing brilliant!

Nick Cave on tour

In November the legendary Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are playing Sheffield for the first time ever, and thanks to DKPM’s ever-expanding Nick Cave fanbase a load of us will be going! Here they are on Later with one of my favourite tracks from their latest amazing album Dig, Lararus, Dig.

TK Foo Fighting at Wembley

I was lucky enough to blag a ticket to see the Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium last weekend, courtesy of our lovely clients at 505 Games. God bless em! What a gig!

Charlatans hit Sheffield!

Went to see The Charlatans at the Carling Academy, Sheffield’s latest live music venue. Great fun to get mixed up in some proper sweaty moshing, been a while!

Nick Cave is a bloody legend!

Went to see Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds last week, and as a fairly recent convert (thanks Matt!) this was the first time I’ve seen them live. They rocked the place and Nick Cave was just amazing. What a bloke!

Missing Kirby Mashup at Ministry

Our Will (yes, the fabled ‘other’ Kirby brother!) continues to make waves in clubland as his DJ alter ego Santero, and last Saturday made his debut at Ministry of Sound. Top work fella!

Not really my scene but I couldn’t miss this momentous occasion, and I enjoyed the novelty of being in the DJ booth - which also had the brilliant effect of making me look less ludicrously out of place – result!

YESSSSSSSSSS!! Wednesday stay up!!

As a long-suffering Sheffield Wednesday season ticket holder, it was a joy to behold a sell-out crowd of 37,000 at Hillsborough on the final day of the season, our biggest attendance in over 8 years.

Better yet a thumping 4-1 victory over Norwich made sure we avoided the drop and gave something to be grateful for – if we’d lost that game it would have meant hello to Hereford and the like in League 1...

So well done to Lawsy and the boys, and here’s to a better 2008-09!

YO! Sushi serves up Cooking Mama 2!

After the huge award-winning success of Cooking Mama, our friends at 505 Games are enjoying some high profile activity for the sequel, Cooking Mama 2.

Diners at the Poland St or Farringdon Rd branches of YO! Sushi are being served up a helping of Cooking Mama 2, so they can chop, strip and fry to their heart’s content on a Nintendo DS in between courses! The promotion will be rolling out to other YO! Sushi branches nationwide in the coming months. Go Mama!

Cooking Mama Party

We love Cooking Mama, the smash hit cooking simulation game from long-time client 505 Games.

And to celebrate shipping over 1 million units of Cooking Mama, 505 Games threw a party of food, drinks and gaming at Smith’s of Smithfield. Masterchef’s John Torode was the evening’s special celebrity guest and hosted a fantastic night, which finished with a hilarious cook-off between two lucky guests and one of Smith’s top chefs!

Me, Dan and Matt were lucky enough to bag invites, and spent the evening frantically slicing, dicing, kneading and frying on the Wii, with a few drinks with industry partygoers in between.

No Country for Old Men

The Coen brothers are back on form with a vengeance, with the best film I’ve seen in years. There’s so much to enjoy on so many levels, from the set up that quickly establishes a cast of what feel like real living breathing characters, to the heart-pounding chase that takes up much of the film, right through to the final scenes which lend this Texan thriller an existential edge – leaving you with as many questions as answers.

The icing on the cake is Javier Bardem’s performance as Chigurh, a relentless hit-man with a habit of deciding your fate with a coin toss that’s as disturbing as his haircut. Call it... friend-o!

Flight of the Conchords

We’ve all fallen in love with the latest show from HBO, featuring “New Zealand’s 4th most popular parody folk duo” If you haven’t seen Jermaine and Bret trying to make it big on the music scene in New York City, check it out Tuesday nights on BBC 4.

My favourite moment so far is Bret serenading his new girlfriend with a bit of help from Jemaine, listing “realistic” things he would do for her after dismissing climbing the highest mountain as too unlikely …

It's Back! It's Big! It's at Battersea!

Following the huge success in 2006 of the British Academy Video Games Awards, we are delighted to be continuing as the Official Brand Partner for 2007.

This year will be even bigger and better, and we are honoured to continue our strategic partnership with the BAFTA team.

We have been working closely with BAFTA to further build the Games Awards brand, with an integrated promotional campaign and the design of all event literature.

We launched the fantastic microsite in the summer, showcasing the excitement of the evening, while giving all industry professionals the opportunity to get involved. See for yourself at www.bavga.co.uk

Following last year's spectacular televised ceremony at the Roundhouse, this year's Awards will take place on Tuesday 23 October at Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, and will be televised on E4 and T4.
